Background

BW Offshore engineers innovative floating production solutions to progress the future of energy. The company’s goal is to build on four decades of offshore operations and project execution to create tailored energy solutions for evolving global markets. The company recently announced an investment in offshore wind energy. BW Offshore is represented in all the major oil and gas-regions in the world with a fleet of 15 FPSOs (floating production storage and offloading vessels).

BW Offshore has delivered 40 FPSO and FSO projects over the past four decades, and they have a strong project resource pool of engineers, construction leaders, security- and quality-personnel, project planners and more. BW Offshore has around 2000 employees and is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.

Through an agile project set-up with frequent check-ins, we were able to be hands-on in all decisions, and could influence how content management was set up for editors to ensure a future-proof site full of possibility for growth, following the initial launch.

We worked closely with Epinova to set up a site tailored to our needs, while being mindful of budget and delivery deadlines.

Marita Sandvoll, Communications & Brand Specialist BWO

The assignment

BW Offshore needed a platform to communicate with their shareholders, investors, and potential job seekers. There was also a need to communicate with their own employees who were spread across four continents. This resulted in a modern corporate website and an informative and appreciated intranet.

The project focused on the visual experience for visitors, an improved content structure, and a modern and flexible set of components for editors to reduce the need for involving developers in daily work.

The result

The design of the new website reflects the updated brand and the company's new values. From a digital perspective, several animations have been added to create an engaging effect. This, together with clear and factual content, makes the website feel fresh and modern.

The intranet is built with the same modules in the CMS with the addition of personalized blocks. In addition to the general information, employees can now see local news, their own tasks and apps, and have access to communities and cultural programs.

Following the launch of BW Offshore, Epinova was entrusted to add two more sites to the same platform for the sister company BW Energy. This means that the multisite now includes two external websites and two intranets. These have been managed and further developed over the years, most recently with a Portuguese language version to highlight new acquisitions in Brazil.

Project delivery

The project was delivered smoothly using the Kanban methodology, where Epinova was responsible for the project as a whole and collaborated closely with BW Offshore and other external suppliers.

The agile project methodology worked well because BW Offshore was involved in decision making on a daily basis. Adjustments were made continuously to accommodate the editors' needs and working methods, as well as the organization's wishes.

Since the project was run from Sweden and BW Offshore is located in Norway, everything was handled online, which proved to be both efficient and successful.

Epinova's role

Epinova has been responsible for project management and development and customization of Episerver CMS. The website is responsive, with integrations to third-party systems for financial information and Fotoware Digital Asset Management. The solution is built on Epinova's framework and utilizes Epinova's module for responsive image management.

Further development

After the successful launch, BW Offshore decided to invest in developing a new intranet using Epinova's framework to better communicate internally, create a more lively intranet, and achieve synergies for future development and maintenance between the two websites.

The journey with the Group has continued with another external website and an intranet for sister company BW Energy. These sites share the same codebase, making it easy and cost-effective to reuse existing and newly developed blocks, pages, and modules from the other company. Creating a multisite is therefore both a sustainable and efficient way to develop websites.
