Wezz cares about both customers and colleagues

Wezz is one of our stars at Epinova. In his role as senior Tech Lead and architect, he listens to customers' needs and keeps his eyes on the horizon.

Wezz Balk

Wezz is our magician. He has a finger in most of what we do, both with customers and internally. Yes, there's really nothing that Wezz can't solve or do and he loves to share his skills and everything new he learns. Now he has been working with us for four years and we have asked him some questions.

Tell us a little about your background

When I was a kid, I liked to disassemble technical things like tape recorders and mechanical watches. I have worked with IT since I was a child. Already at the age of 14 I worked in IT Support and two years later I became WM Data's youngest employee. Shortly after the IT bubble burst (2002) I got my first programming job and after that the journey really began. During all these years, I have seen and done a lot. In recent years I have built and managed large web platforms for e.g. Ericsson, SEB and PostNord.

I started as a Frontend developer for 10 years, but eventually I wanted to learn more about backend code to see the results of what I had done faster, so it was natural for me to start developing in the backend as well. After that, it was natural to continue as a tech lead and architect. I have also been a mentor to other developers, which has been a lot of fun.

What would you say differentiates where we are today – versus when you started?

We have grown enormously and become an even bigger family, which is super fun. We may have gotten bigger, but the core of Epinova is stronger than ever. Humble experts who want the best for their customers.

Tell us what you like about working as a Tech Lead and what does the role mean to you?

The tech lead role is exciting because you have to understand your stakeholders' needs and come up with solutions that are useful and sustainable. You don't just sit and work on tasks, you always have to be able to look ahead and see what's on the horizon and plan how the ship should be steered forward as efficiently for all parties as possible.

What makes you proud to go to work every day?

Proud is a feeling I usually feel when I look back. Both over personal development and to see how colleagues and Epinova grow and develop with you over time. It makes me go to work with a smile every day.

How do you enjoy working at Epinova?

Very good! One of the reasons why I even considered changing jobs was when I was asked "how often do you laugh during the day at work?" and that very thought became a seed that led me to choose to start at Epinova four years ago. And I haven't regretted it for a second! Here we laugh a lot and often and it's a great atmosphere.

To then see when your efforts come in handy, see how satisfied the customers are, see how colleagues develop and grow, well then I thrive!
