Emil wants to work with the best developers

Emil wants to continue to develop and be challenged, so he thrives. But the family feeling between colleagues is also important.

Emil Ekman

Why did you choose Epinova?

I really enjoyed my previous job, but still felt that it was not a company for me because there were so many people and new people starting all the time. I didn't really have a thought of changing but when I was away on parental leave for 6 months and came back, there were 30 new people in the group I belonged to. There was a lot of people in the whole company and then you have to start over and get to know everyone again. You never get this feeling of home when you come to work.

Epinova was smaller and the interview I had with two of our developers felt just right. Here are the people you can hang out with, I felt. That interview was very useful – you get to know employees on a slightly more personal level – it's not just the job talk, although that's also an important part of the interview.

Then I got a very good impression in terms of the technical part when I talked to Linus who is our CEO and OMVP (Optimizely Most Valuable Professional) for the first time – he is an endless source of knowledge, And then I felt that there is a lot to learn here. Now that I've worked at Epinova for a few years, I still feel the same way - there's so much knowledge at this company.

What makes you thrive in a workplace?

It's hard to nag yourself to work with such talented developers at a larger company. You often get the answer that "no, but it's not possible because he's out on assignment". It doesn't work for me – I can sit out with a customer and they're happy with me and I'm happy with them – but then when I reflect on what I've actually learned, I've just done what I already knew and I haven't developed anything, And that's not how I want to work. When you close a project, I want to be able to feel that now I've gotten better.

I get inspired by the best

That's very important to me. Now I really feel that in all the projects I've been working on here, I've gotten something more out of it. I'm challenged by my colleagues, otherwise it's the case that in other places you just have to deliver a project and not go outside the box. But here we are constantly discussing how we can make things better – especially now with our Epinova starter kit and our thinking about reusability and components. You write one thing well and then you use it many times with different customers instead of writing the same thing badly ten times. We often discuss how we can build features and in what way - with high quality so that it will benefit our customers.

You've had a fantastic development here with us

Yes, I feel happy and proud. I'm around people who question what I do, so it's also gratifying to make suggestions. It's boring to come up with ideas and everyone just says "yes, but we'll take this in" and then you don't get any questioning of the ideas you have. You want to have a discussion – because there isn't one person in the world who has all the right answers, and that's what I like about our way of working. Being challenged - that's when I learn - which makes it a lot of fun.
