Coor focuses on accessibility and sustainability

Through a strategic and user-centered approach, Coor has transformed its digital presence into a powerful platform that not only reflects their brand but also actively contributes to achieving business goals. A prime example of how strategic insight work and technical expertise can go hand in hand to create real business value!

Coor people

Coor knows service and is present at thousands of workplaces across the Nordic region. As one of the leading facility management providers in the Nordics, Coor offers all the services needed for a business to operate smoothly and efficiently, from property management, energy and security solutions to janitorial services, operation of staff cafeterias, reception, conference, and coffee services.

With a strong focus on sustainability and innovation, it is important for Coor that the web platform also lives up to these ambitions.

Background and challenges

Coor, a company with websites in multiple countries and languages, faced the need to update its Optimizely-based web platform to streamline its content management and web presence.

The current solution has existed for many years, which has caused it to grow in content, complexity, number of integrations, and "technical debt" over time. The existing solution had become cumbersome and difficult to work with for editors and costly to maintain and develop.

With a desire for a deeper understanding of its users' behaviors and user journeys, the goal was to tailor the new website to their needs.

The assignment involved several steps, where we initially conducted strategic insight work together with Coor. Defining the purpose of a new web solution is always guiding, and understanding the target groups' driving forces and needs is central to creating a user-centered design, which in turn also supports Coor's vision and business objectives.

With the results from the user insights project to lean on, we had a short runway when we were to begin a comprehensive upgrade of all our external websites.

Rapid implementation through high degree of reusability

In the next step, a new powerful platform was developed based on the latest version of Optimizely (CMS version 12). It is based on Epinova's framework which already fundamentally supports managing multiple websites and brands within a single Optimizely installation. The platform consists of all Coor's websites:

  • An Investor Relations web (IR, corporate)
  • Five market websites (in various language versions)
  • Seven brand websites

The framework that Coor took advantage of otherwise consists of a "starter kit" with page templates, blocks, powerful image management, and features for error handling, increased security, and performance.

The content migration was handled by Epinova's Content Migration Engine, a time-saving tool with many positive effects. Besides allowing Coor to automatically move over a large bulk of pages and images, the tool also provided support in the redirect work.

The combination of Epinova's framework and Epinova's Content Migration Engine made it possible to launch 13 websites within a timeframe of 8 months – both time-efficient and profitable.

The new, updated web platform is a central component in Coor's strategy to create the most successful work environments in the Nordics. With a strong focus on user-centered design and technical excellence, Coor now has a robust platform for continued growth and innovation.

says Ulrika Mikiasson, Epinova's project manager.

A consistent theme permeates the entire web, regardless of country or brand, so that visitors can quickly recognize it and find information, submit customer inquiries or job applications, and stay updated—an effective tool for attracting and informing—completely in line with Coor's goals.

Mia Odeh, web project manager from Coor:

Building 13 completely new websites without losing momentum in daily work is a high ambition, but by using Epinova's solutions, we gained a significant head start. The framework, in combination with the migration tool, generated 'suggestions' for how the new pages should look and function, and we were able to iterate in stages during the project as each part of the CMS's building blocks were optimized based on both users' and editors' needs. Alongside the development of the new web platform, we also had the opportunity to establish new, more efficient work methods for the editors. In addition to upgrading to a modern and technically stable platform, we are happy and proud to have also succeeded in improving accessibility, sustainability, and user experience on our websites.
