Mia wanted to be able to work from home

Mia is a full-stack Optimizely developer. She likes our lunch n' learn and our structured way of working, which allows her to combine life as a mother of young children and her professional role.

Tell us about your background

I studied computer science at Linköping University. I have a bachelor's degree with a focus on management. When I finished my studies, I went on a two-year trainee program where I got to try out both management assignments and try to develop in Episerver – and that's what I fell for.

After that, I've been working with web development for seven years, so it's a total of nine years now. I've worked with both backend and frontend, and I'm more of a backend developer right now, but I think it's fun to work with frontend as well.

Why did you choose Epinova?

I chose Epinova because there are great people working here, they are good colleagues. Everyone has the same drive and we all know what we want going forward. I also like the flexibility here with a lot of responsibility and that you can also work from home, which was very important to me as I now live in a house in the countryside with a family.

You work with our RnD - what do you do then?

I build up features, either new features that we see a need for or something inspired by something we have built in a customer project. Right now I'm using My Pages functionality.

What makes Epinova different from your previous experiences?

There's better cohesion and it's more focused on Optimizely and also modern Frontend frameworks. Everyone understands and can help each other and everyone is up-to-date with the latest in their fields.

I also like our component thinking, how we work with reusability, testing and pull requests etc which is very professional. We have good processes and are careful to ensure that there is quality in everything we do. It allows me to be efficient even if I'm working from home.

We bounce a lot of solutions and best practice on an ongoing basis. The advantage is that we can work on several projects at the same time together. We are more like a team that takes on projects, instead of being very divided into different assignments where I work on one project and my colleague works on another.  Here at Epinova, we work on projects more together, Which is really fun and educational.

What is important to you as a family?

For me, it's important to have time for everyday life with the family. For me, it means a lot to be able to have reasonably flexible working hours and the opportunity to work from home.
