Norwegian lifts its Optimizely platform to the cloud
With five websites in thirteen languages, Epinova has assisted Norwegian in upgrading and migrating their Optimizely solution to the cloud. Through strategic consulting and automated release management, we ensured a seamless transition that enhances security and scalability.

Norwegian is a leading airline group headquartered just outside Oslo, Norway, with over 8,200 employees, carrying over 20 million passengers annually with a fleet of 95 aircraft.
Norwegian is now lifting its Optimizely solution, which is operated on a large number of physical servers, to the cloud. The advantage is that you can use both resources and energy more efficiently with the effect of reducing CO2 emissions, which is in line with Norwegian's sustainability goals; to be the best sustainable choice for passengers and contribute to the transformation of the aviation industry.
From on-prem to the cloud and an upgraded Optimizely solution
In 2023, Norwegian took the initiative to start a new major upgrade and migration project. The starting point was to take an on-premise Optimizely solution that first saw the light of day in 2005 and upgrade it to Optimizely CMS 12 and move it to the cloud. The Optimizley solution consists of five websites, in thirteen languages, and with a range of integrations to surrounding systems and applications.
The focus of the project has been security, scalability and to ensure that all functions and integrations in the complex solution can continue to function as before after completing the upgrade and migration to DXP.
Norwegian's need to be able to grow with both the solution and the requirement for a high uptime, especially during periods of high traffic, has been of paramount importance.
Automatic release management
In the project, Epinova has also helped the customer implement an automated roll-out of new functionality and release management, which has increased the efficiency of the roll-out of new functionality and reduced potential sources of error during releases, which also has positive effects in terms of sustainability by using resources and energy more optimized.
With our many and special integrations, the project was quite an extensive work that we would not have been able to carry out without the fantastic efforts of Epinova's very talented developers. They are not only technically skilled, but also solution-oriented and, not least, very pleasant to work with. This has enabled us to achieve our goal of a solution that is stable and ready for the future.

Long-term relationship
Norwegian and Epinova have a long and fruitful collaboration since 2010 and together we have carried out both large projects and ongoing development and support.
Epinova has been responsible for the entire project from strategy and advice to development, launch and support. This has involved everything from project management, architecture, frontend and backend development to performance and security, all in close collaboration with Norwegian.
Result
After a successful launch in the summer of 2024 with high traffic volumes, Norwegian is very pleased with the new solution, especially in terms of improved user-friendliness for editors, high performance, increased security and improved integration with mobile platforms and a new booking system. And that the new web platform contributes to Norwegian's sustainability goals.

Together with Norwegian, we have moved the Group's on-premise Optimizely solution to the cloud. Upgrading to Optimizely CMS 12, editor-friendliness, improved performance to cope with high traffic volumes, and security have also been part of the project.
